South Korea’s An Se-young achieved a historic milestone in badminton after winning the Denmark Open title.
The Olympic champion raised her tally to 47 international titles, making her the most decorated player in women’s singles competition, according to official Badminton World Federation records.
A thrilling victory in Denmark
An defeated Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi in the final, following a tough match held in the city of Odense.
She lost the first game 21-23, before taking the next two games 21-14 and 21-18.
With this win, she surpassed the record held by Indonesia’s Susi Susanti, who had amassed 46 titles before retiring in 1997.
The International Federation clarified that the tally excludes regional games titles, noting that official record-keeping began in 1989.
Ambition renewed with every match
An Se-young has topped the world rankings for 105 consecutive weeks.
She affirmed her desire to achieve more milestones and break more records, while focusing on each match individually.
She also expressed her happiness at seeing fans enjoy her matches, considering their presence a motivation to keep performing at a high level.
The 24-year-old player has won six singles titles on the World Tour this year.
Her record also includes gold medals at the Asian Games, world championships, and regional competitions.
Her only loss in 2026 came against China’s Wang Zhiyi in the final of the All England Open.
That defeat came in March. The Denmark Open triumph gives her fresh momentum to continue her title-laden career.
