Intellectual Property Boosts Lebanon’s Economy

Figures from the Intellectual Property Authority at the Ministry of Economy and Trade reveal that economic and innovative activity in Lebanon continues.

Despite mounting challenges,

A total of 7,084 new trademarks and 144 patents were registered during the first seven months of 2026.

These results reflect the commitment of institutions and entrepreneurs to launching new projects and products, as well as their determination to protect their trademarks and innovations within the Lebanese market.

Diversity in Trademark Registrations

Advertising and business management services topped the list of sectors.

With 931 trademarks registered.

The coffee, tea, and cocoa sector came in second with 675 trademarks.

This was followed by food and beverage services with 649 trademarks.

Similarly, the education, training, and entertainment sector registered 448 trademarks.

Meanwhile, the number of trademarks in the jewelry, textiles, and fabrics sector reached 387.

In the field of innovation, the rate of patent registration averaged about 20 patents per month, confirming the continued flow of new initiatives and ideas.

Dr. Muhammad Abu Haidar, Director General of Economy and Trade, said that these figures reflect continued investment and confidence in the importance of intellectual property protection in Lebanon.

He also announced the launch of a fully integrated automation system for the agency within the next two months.

Several stages of the system will rely on artificial intelligence.

The move aims to speed up transactions, facilitate the submission and tracking of applications, and reduce the time and cost for citizens, institutions, and innovators.
