American actress Emmy Rossum has revealed an unexpectedly personal side to Julia Roberts, describing the star’s close bond with her family, especially her children, with whom she makes time to spend together and for whom she crafts handmade gifts.
During an appearance on “The Jennifer Hudson Show” on Thursday, October 22, Rossum, 40, spoke about her relationship with Roberts, 58, who shares a strong friendship with Rossum’s husband, director Sam Esmail.
Julia Roberts becomes “Auntie Jojo”
Rossum described the Oscar-winning actress as humble and kind, noting that she doesn’t even use a personal assistant.
She added that Roberts has visited her home several times, sitting on the floor to play Legos with her children.
Rossum also revealed that Roberts enjoys handicrafts, knitting blankets specially for the two children and adding a signature phrase to each one: “From the knitting needles of Auntie Jojo.”
A friendship that began in the world of film
The relationship between Julia Roberts and Sam Esmail dates back to their collaboration on several projects, most notably the series “Homecoming” and the film “Leave the World Behind.”
Esmail has previously described Roberts as a generous and humble friend and mother, saying that getting to know her away from the spotlight revealed her true, warm nature.
Emmy Rossum and Sam Esmail married in 2017. They have a daughter born in May 2021 and a son born in April 2023.
The couple is careful to protect their children’s privacy and keep them out of the public eye. Still, Rossum occasionally speaks about her experience with motherhood, which she considers an extraordinary journey and a great responsibility.
In a previous interview, she said that raising children means helping them build self-confidence, accept their differences, and gain the tools they need to face life independently.
