Lebanese-Syrian press cooperation under discussion

Bashar Osman, secretary of relations and communications and secretary of administrative and financial affairs at the Syrian Journalists’ Union, and Hamza Ahmad Abbas, a member of the union’s Damascus branch, visited the Lebanese Press Editors Syndicate.

They were received by Syndicate President Joseph Kacyfi and members of the syndicate’s board.

The meeting addressed cooperation and coordination between the union and the syndicate on professional matters and within the framework of the General Federation of Arab Journalists.

It also covered facilitating the entry of Lebanese journalists into Syria at border crossings between the two countries, and vice versa.

The discussions also touched on cooperation to resolve any issues that may arise at border crossings, with several formulas proposed to formalize this through official procedures.

The attendees reviewed a draft cooperation protocol between the Syrian Journalists’ Union and the Lebanese Press Editors Syndicate.

The draft will be studied further ahead of its official approval.

An agreement was reached to exchange visits and maintain ongoing communication in the interest of both Lebanese and Syrian journalists.
