Argentina Invites Messi to a Farewell Match, The Argentine Football Association has extended an official invitation to its former captain, Lionel Messi, to play a farewell match for the national team against Benin on October 6 at the Monumental Stadium in Buenos Aires.
Argentina has invited Messi to a farewell match following his retirement from international play last month.
The association aims to give him the opportunity to bid farewell to his country’s fans during a special match befitting his exceptional career with the Argentine national team.
Argentine Football Association President Claudio Tapia confirmed the invitation to the veteran star, writing on his social media accounts:
“Let’s give the best player in the world, the icon of our national team, and our captain, Lionel Andrés Messi, the farewell he deserves here in Argentina.”
Three Friendly Matches for Argentina
The Argentine national team will play three friendly matches at home during the international break, which runs from September 21 through October 6.
The “Tango” team will face Bolivia on September 30 at the Mario Kempes Stadium in Córdoba.
They will then host Burkina Faso on October 3, before facing Benin in the final match.
The match against Bolivia is scheduled to be held with only 50 percent of the stadium’s capacity in attendance.
This is in compliance with sanctions imposed by FIFA.
